IT 10-Second Lesson | Comparing the Odds: Korean Lotto vs. Bitcoin Mining

The Korean Lotto has odds of about 1 in 8,145,060 per ticket, or 1 in 1,629,012 with five tickets.

A CPU miner (i7-11700K, 368 MH/s) has about a 1 in 2.7 billion chance of finding a Bitcoin block in a week.

A GPU miner (RTX 3080, 1 GH/s) improves this to around 1 in 1 billion, still far lower than Lotto odds.

A dedicated ASIC (140 TH/s) raises weekly success to roughly 1 in 7,220, but with huge power costs.

In short, Lotto relies on luck, while Bitcoin mining is digital labor — both rare wins, but mining also secures the network.
