Alan Turing, born in 1912 in London, was a brilliant mathematician who laid the foundation of modern computer science.
In 1936, he introduced the Turing Machine, defining what it means for something to be computable.
During World War II, he cracked Germany’s Enigma code, helping shorten the war by years.
He later proposed the Turing Test, asking, “Can machines think?” — a core idea in artificial intelligence.
Despite persecution for his homosexuality, his legacy lives on through the Turing Award, the “Nobel Prize of Computing.”
